About Us

The Norwood Church of Christ is a family of believers, who is striving to serve the Lord in the Knoxville area. This congregation began on the first Lord’s Day in June 1955. Seventeen families first met in the Norwood Fire Hall and then at the Norwood Community building. The first church building was constructed in 1956 at 501 Merchants Road.

In December 1989 the congregation moved into its current building at 6001 Central Avenue. The new building is located on ten acres of land that was originally designated as a “bird sanctuary.” Several acres of the property are still forested to preserve the beauty of the setting. There is a walking trail around the perimeter of the property with signs that have Scripture carved into them. Those who walk on the trail can read the Scripture and meditate as they walk.

Our Mission

Our mission is based on the Great Commission given by Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all that I commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
